This is a 1971-S Washington Quarter graded PR69 Deep Cameo (DCAM) by Austin Hutto, and slabbed by ICG (Independent Coin Grading). The “S” mintmark shows it was struck at the San Francisco Mint as a proof coin, intended for collectors rather than circulation. All 1971-S quarters were minted in a copper-nickel clad composition (outer layers of copper-nickel over a copper core) and display sharp details and mirrored fields typical of proof strikes. The PR69 DCAM grade indicates a virtually flawless surface with strong cameo contrast between frosted devices and mirrored backgrounds, just one point below a perfect PR70.
